FINAL is here

For my final I chose to talk about how bigger is better, or how the option to have everything at our finger tips has lead to the US wanting more material things. I can remember back in my time when if you had a million dollars you were rich. Now if you can claim to have a million dollars, your average. This has affected me for a ong time. I dont know if I have told anyone but I have served a mission for my church in Brazil. I was there for 2 years. I saw poverty at its best. I met poeple that lived with nothing and were happy. After I came home I realized how much I had and still wanted. That is just ugly. I can get by with next to nothing and I should be happy, if that were only true. I found a vidoe that shows some of the people down there. You can see the houses but they are so happy.

One of the main problems with mass media is that is had lead to the average person wanting more. I need to have more than my neighbor. I can see this happening with the TV commericals and the shows. They are showing that the cars need to be larger, the houses need to be bigger, and the familys need to come second. We are quicly becoming a society in debt. I know this has happened to me. I want this now so I will pay for it later. Then I end up paying twice to three times the worth of said item. In order to fix this I need to change my wants or do away with them. I need to focus on things that I need and work towards those first. I think the best work I had was with the blog presentation I did.

Looking at people and their houses one can come to the conclusion that the bigger the house the wealthier the people and the happier they may seem. This can be quit bias as we see more and more that the large houses cannot be purchased or that they do not bring happines. How many times I have driven by a house and thought some day I hope to afford something like that. My kids would love it....Now after the market fell, I see places that are shells or hopes of dreams. The ideology behind bigger is better comes to mind here. How many times have we thought that the larger the item, the better it is. I know that I have fallen victim to this thinking process. Going through the grocery store or ordering at the fast food joint. Would you like to upgrade that to the largest possible size?? Sure why not for 40 cents. Now Im holding a big ass cup of soda, fries and trying to eat a burger while driving home.....then I wonder why im feeling like crap for the next couple of hours. I have to remember, Oh yeah I over ate because I wanted to get my monies worth. To me it is the same thing with this house. how many people do you need to fill it up? Why not just get something that will keep you comfortable? Because thats not the American view. We have been raised that you need to open your eyes and get something bigger then your neighbors, parents, or siblings.

The pictures I chose are those of a mansion and an overstuffed hampster. I don't know how many times I ahve done this or will do it, hopefully I about to stop. I am giving up on eating out, and of over stuffing my face. Just not as muich fun as it used to be.

I have learned that in order to try and fix this want in the society it needs to start at home with me and my family. If we can fix it with ourselves, we might be able to tget our friends and family to start on that also. it would be great to be poor and happy instead of poor and envious of what someone else has. I want to be the thin hamster. I hope that we can reverse what the media has been teaching us about bigger is better. I feel that after researching this project I have gained the knowledge necessary to change my view and that of my familys. I hope you all feel the same way.

I hope that you can take away at least 5 things from this post.

1) Bigger is NOT better, be happy with what you got.

2) Money is not that important.

3) Enjoy life while you can, you never know when it will change or end.

4) Don't be the greedy hamster.

5) Debt is of the devil.

Science is fun again

This is They Might Be Giants; they are a very fun band that has turned science into song. I had forgotten all about them until I heard this song. They teach science through songs and have quite a few albums out. I like that fact that they can make it fun for all ages. The songs they have written are catchy and easy to follow.

Trying to think of images of science and how they are found in music, life, TV and the media makes me remember how things have changed. We can see the improvements and the setbacks in life.

I liked this video because it shows the change and improvements made to the imaging of the human body.

I had always wanted to see this exhibit one day, and remembered it and thought it might apply to this assignment.

I hope you all enjoyed this.

Movies are gooood....

This is the movie Monty Python: The Life of Brian. Its a very funny and humerous movie about someone that is born on the same day as Christ. The movie is a parody if I remember right. This is the ending of the movie where Brian is being crucified and his neighbor starts to sing this song. It is rather catchy and can help you feel better on a crappy day.

Another parody of a film, that I coulnd't find a clip I wanted to see was for Spaceballs. That is a movie takes the classic of Starwars  and turns it into a rather funny bit. The whole movie is full of parodies and pastiche. The main baddy is Darth Helmet, with Colonol Sanderz as his right hand man.

I need it.....

I have always loved this commercial. It gives one the thought that you need  this bidy spray to get the girls. If only the spray could work to transform you into that chocolate man, then everything would be ok. I find that this ad would reach out to the young men, or even women. They could have something good to laugh at or even try. I have bought that spray and really liked it, got quite a few comments about it lol.

This ad has always called to me. I like the music because I can relate. Often I find myslef stuck being something I am not. I try hard to fit in and at others times I just don't give a damn. This ad is calling to the people to try and be yourselves yet use this company to save money. They seem to be reaching to everyone out there.

This one can be disturbing at times, depending on the time of day and frame of mind. They are trying to show that this TP will help you feel better because less paper will be left over after wiping. I know they are looking to make it fun and appealing to the kids. That is how I see it atleast. Make it a happy, fun commercial and watch as the kids tell mom and dad they want the TP with the red bear on it. My bottom will feel better with it.

LOL

Im laughing because I finally saw this video and didnt realize he is in Brazil. I served my mission there and this just made my day.

What have I learned???

Well in this weeks blog assignment I am to write quit a bit and show less pictures....good luck to those that read this.

News....I hear that and think of the problems and issues going on in the world today. Where does it come from? I still remember getting the newspaper as a little kid and having to keep up with the events for class projects. Now the newspapers are in trouble because you can access all that you need on the internet. I can get that on my phone, my computer and just about anywhere. The internet has changed the world as we know it. One can carry the news with them, access it, and update it as you go. No more waiting a day for the updates, you can watch it as it happens. To me that is very amazing.
With the introduction of the internet that has affected everything we know. You can see the change in shopping, politics, and just about everything. I can get onto the internet and learn about my family and its past. I can learn about my religion and see what others may think. The cultural impact has been so explosive with the introduction of the internet. You can stay in contact with your friends form around the world, or converse with family in web cam chat. These are just a few ideas of what the internet has done for us.
Now as to analyze the the changes of the and growth of the mass media. That sounds like an overload of information. Mass media is the reference to all the different ways one can obtain the news, or knowledge of the afairs from around the world. This information has changed from being a few days old and in a hard print in your hand, to on the spot updates on the computer, you can look at it and get your fix while surfing the web. This has changed our society in that now we want everything now. You cannot wait for it. We are becoming the now generation, in that we expect everything in our hands or on the computer, or on the phone. I cannot beleive how much has changed even in my life time. The accesibility to the news, and the up to the hour presentations are making the news that much easier for all to get.

Charge it....

So this is just there to get your attention..my real comments will be on the following images and ideas...

These images have always gotten me. I can look back and remember exaclty what I was doing on that day; I was running late to school and had no idea what was goin on. I didn't listen to the radio, had a cd in, and was to busy running to catch up to my girlfriend, now wife at the time. I got to class and everyone was sad and quiet so I asked what happened....I saw the news that was going on and my jaw dropped. I remember seeing the news for the next couple of days and seeing fear , anger and hatred on people's faces. I felt it too. The only thing that kept me from joining the military at that time was my engagement to my wife...I was around to hear the stories on the news, and to see friends that had loved ones there at that time. Their images are still in my memory when I think about 9/11.
I can look at how these images have changed now from the past to the present. Yes they show fear, and destruction...but some have brought us hope and love.

This one has to be one of my most favorite images. The show of support for their country and the people. I cannot imagine what kinds of nerves these brave men and women have. To rush into that sort of disaster with only their little pieces of gear to save them.
I look back at these images and feel the sense of American Pride. The love that we can share as a people.
Here we can see how the people worked together to help those in need. We can look back and see the changes in ourselves brought on by this destruction. As these images flooded our TVs, the newspapers, and every sort of magazine that they could fit them on, we can remember and honor the fallen, the slain, and the survivors. I try to imagine if I had been there, would I be running out, or back in to find those that didnt make it out alive. I hope to have been running back in.
